NEWTON'S NEXT FOUR CONTESTS
Aug. 30 at Diboll scrimmage

Since Newton Head Football Coach Curtis Barbay is not a fan of Week 0 games, the Eagles will host Diboll in their final scrimmage of the pre-season. The game should give Newton a good look at where they are before the predistrict season begins.

Sept. 7 at Crockett

Newton begin their strong non-district schedule when they take to the road to take on Crockett. The Bulldogs were a Division II area finalist in Class 3A last year and return 11 starters from that squad. Key players to watch include junior Tyler Tabor, who rushed for 1,146 yards and 20 touchdowns last year and RB Willie Carter, who rushed for 791 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Sept. 14 Jasper

The Eagles host their home opener and pick their traditional rival Jasper Bulldogs for an opponent. Last year, the Eagles rallied late to defeat the Bulldogs in The Bone Yard and Jasper will be looking for a measure of revenge this year in Newton's home opener.

Sept. 21 Silsbee

It doesn't get any easier for the Eagles in their third week matchup with the Silsbee Tigers. The Tigers are fresh off another playoff appearance and return nine starters from that team. Silsbee handed the Eagles their first loss of the season last year 27- 23 but this contest will be at Singletary Stadium and the Eagles will be looking for measure of revenge against this 3A team.
