Celebrate grandparents Sunday Grandparents' Day is celebrated the first Sunday after Labor Day, a tradition started in 1973. The Texas Forestry Museum in Lufkin will open for a free "Grand Day" celebration Saturday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. until noon, with crafts, tours and refreshments for grandparents and grandkids. The Museum is located at 1905 Atkinson Dr., open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday- Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. The museum includes displays detailing the history of logging, sawmills and papermills in East Texas, mapping technology, and the plants discovered by the Lewis and Clark expedition.
