Women's Civic Club

Rose Society

The Lakes Area Rose Society will hold their monthly meeting Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Jasper City Council room, 465 S. Main St. Speaker will be Jasper County Extension Agent Ricky Thompson on the master gardener program. Call 423-4756 for more information.

160 years

The Brookeland United Methodist Church will celebrate 160 years of Methodism Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. and receive a Texas Historical Marker for the church's 100th anniversary. Music will be provided by the Rayburn Country Dulcimers. Take loop 149 off Hwy. 96 to Old Hwy. 8 N., church located on west side.

Royalty tea

The Fall Fest pageant will hold their mother-daughter tea at the Beaty Orton house from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. For more information, visit www.jaspercoc.org.

Making the dream

"Making the Dream a Reality" is a seminar for parents of young adults with disabilities to be held in Beaumont Sept. 15, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Beaumont Plaza. Speakers will discuss resources, strategies and services. Registration is $35, call Rene'e Turk at 898- 4684.

JHS project graduation

Jasper High School project graduation meeting will be Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Jasper High School library, all parents are urged to attend.

PRIDE meeting

The Rowe Intermediate Scool will hold the first PRIDE meeting Sept. 18 at 9 a.m. in the Rowe Intermediate cafeteria. If you would like to help, but cannot attend the meeting contact Mrs. McFarland.

Bluebonnet Garden Club

The Bluebonnet Garden Club will meet Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. at Ann Gresham's home, 875 Holly Lane. Kathryn Baldwin will be co-hostess and Bette Hamilton will be at the meeting. Members will have a plant exchange the the yearbook will be presented. Call 384-4793 for more information.

Barbecue cookoff

Newton County Area Go Texans will host a barbecue cookoff at the Newton County Fairgrounds Sept. 21-22. Plate lunches will be for sale Friday from 10:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. A dance will be Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. - midnight. Other festivities will take place.

Dinner and theater

'Death in Them Thar Hills' will be Sept. 21-22 at 6 p.m. and Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Hwy. 190 in Woodville, seating is limited. All proceeds will go to Relay for Life. For more information call St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 283- 3710.

Sowell reunion

The Sowell family reunion will be Sept. 22, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Senior Citizens building by the railroad tracks in San Augustine. Covered dishes and drinks are requested along with recipes for a cookbook. Call Victor Sowell at 903-948-2480 for more information.

Memory Walk

The Beaumont Memory Walk to eliminate Alzheimer's disease will be Sept. 29 with registration at 9 a.m. and the walk at 10 a.m. on Crockett St. downtown. Teams can have one or more members for $25 per adult and $10 per child. For more information contact Debra Brozak at 833- 1613.

50th senior class

The class of 2007 marked the 50th senior class to graduate from Bridge City High School. The Bridge City Alumni Association invites all ex-students and faculty from classes of 1957, 1967, 1977, 1987, 1997 and 2007 to a homecoming Sept. 21-22. Festival and Fair

The Tyler County Chamber of Commerce presents the Tyler County Music Festival and Trade Fair Sept. 22. The event benefits the Sinclair Children's Center and will be from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. at the Sinclair Center Campus, on Pecan St. three blocks south of Hwy. 190, in Woodville. Kids Health Fest will be Sept. 29 at Few Primary from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Cowboys and cowgirls

The Cowgirl and Cowboy-Up pageant will be Oct. 6 at the Palace Theater in Kirbyville from ages 0-18 for girls and 0-5 for boys with Western attire. Entry fee is $50 for all optional awards. Proceeds will go to CASA for children. For more information call Tonya Mils at 720-9475.

1941 Class Reunion
