Eagles smash Splendora 53-21 The first victory in the Steve Fentress era came in fine fashion Friday, Sept. 7 as the Eagles soared to an easy 53-21 thrashing of Splendora on the road. "It was a good game and good win for us," Fentress said. "We were finally able to put some things together offensively and eliminate our mistakes." Running back Adam Rigsby rushed for 213 yards on 20 carries while quarterback Stephen Williams rushed for 175 yards and ran for four touchdowns and threw for two more to pace the Eagles' victory. "Our offensive line did a much better job on their assignments," Fentress said. "We eliminated the mental mistakes and turnovers. We played a real, good four quarters. Defensively, we were teeing off on them and offensively, they couldn't stop us." Woodville jumped out to a 13-0 lead before Splendora reached the scoreboard. The Eagles responded to the score by scoring 13 more points to take a 26-7 lead before Splendora cut the lead to 26-14 at the half. "We are still not where we need to be but we took two big steps forward," Fentress said. Fentress will get to see just how far his Eagles have advanced when Woodville takes on rival Warren this Friday on the road. "They have been playing pretty good football and similar to Splendora," Fentress said. "I know they are going to be ready to go. You can throw the records out in this kind of game because this is a big rivalry. "The team that will be successful is the team that will be more focused during the week during practices," Fentress said. "The kids will be up for this game, they just need to stay focused on what they need to be focused on. It was a close game last year and we're going to try to make it not so close this year." |
