Jasper Methodists plan old-timey tent meeting

First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Jasper will hold an old-fashioned tent meeting Sept. 23-24, where "everyone is encouraged to bring your Bible and wear your jeans," according to planner Liz McClurg.

FUMC is located at 329 N. Bowie. The first service will be Sunday at 10:55 a.m., followed by a picnic lunch.

"Under the tent" services continue at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday.

Tommy Williams, pastor of the Woodville United Methodist Church is the keynote speaker for the event.

Williams received his masters degree from the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.

Williams is chair of the Tyler County Adult Protective Services advisory board and serves on several other civic committees, but may be best known as the color commentator for the Woodville Eagle High School sports.
