The Jasper County Sheriff's department spent a busy week recovering stolen property in several cases that included thefts in several East Texas counties, according to Capt. Stacey Chambers.

Thursday, Sept. 13, Deputy Gene Hawthorne and Investigator Todd Y'Barbo investigated the report of a stolen box trailer full of tools from a residence on U. S. Hwy 62.

Friday Sept. 14, Deputy Kenny Stanley recovered the stolen trailer in the Buna area, attached to a black Nissan truck that was stolen out of Chambers County. The truck and trailer were taken to the Jasper County Sheriff's Office and processed by Investigator Paul Tomplait for fingerprints.

Saturday, Sept. 15, Stanley received information that stolen property from Jasper, Newton, Orange and Jefferson counties was being taken to a residence west of Bon Wier and allegedly being traded for methamphetamine.

Stanley, South East Texas Auto Theft Task Force Investigator Alvin Roberts, and Chambers went to the location and were joined by Newton County Sheriff's Deputy Lewis White.

"When we arrived at the residence we immediately observed a U-Haul trailer sitting in the front that had been stolen from Beaumont," Chambers said.

"At that time, the Newton County Sheriff's Office drafted a search warrant for the residence, which was signed by Judge A. J. Satterwhite," Chambers said. "Upon further searching, we located a utility box trailer that had been stolen from a church in Silsbee on Sept. 10.

"We also located a license plate that had been on a lowboy trailer that was stolen in Hardin County, and at the time that it was stolen it had a small pickup truck on it. We have not located the trailer or the truck. We also recovered a Honda fourwheeler that was stolen on Sept. 10 in Newton County and we recovered a pop-up travel trailer that was also stolen."

Chambers said they next went approximately twohundred yards down the road to the residence of one of the suspects, where they found a zero-radius lawnmower, two four-wheelers and another box trailer, all reported stolen.

"At this time we are investigating several suspects for possession of stolen property, burglary of a building, and burglary of a habitation," Chambers said
