Kids Health Fest offers lifestyle solutions

Kids Health Fest is almost here. This Saturday, Sept. 29 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Few Primary School in Jasper will offer parents an opportunity to learn more about a healthier lifestyle for their children.

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation Healthy Schools Program provides solutions for schools to become healthier places for students and teachers.

With childhood obesity becoming an issue today, Alliance has a plan for the school system to take action against it.

Alliance states that 17 percent of American students are overweight and have fewer opportunities to exercise and play because of standardized testing and budget cuts.

Candy, soft drinks and unhealthy food are available on campuses, making it difficult to eat right.

The Healthy Schools Builder identifies how your school is currently doing and provides you with additional steps the school can take to develop a healthier school environment.

For more information contact Shelby Woods at DETCOG at 384-5704, ext. 254, Lyn Few at 384-5523 or Fleta Youngblood at 384- 6829.
