The Jasper Lady Bulldogs dropped two more district games last week while the Junior Varsity suffered their first losses. Varsity is now 0-4 in district.

Varsity took a hit from from Bridge City Tuesday, Sept. 18, losing 25-12, 25-11 and 25-17.

"We were definitely outplayed," Coach Casey Murphy said. "They're not especially tall but they have some big hitters that we just couldn't answer."

Amber Grant was high point server with eight. Top hitter was Janice Shelby with eight good hits, and Shalethia Middleton had 16 digs.

The second loss came Friday when they played Hardin-Jefferson Friday night. Although the games were close, the Lady Dogs were unable to put them away, losing 25-18, 25-23 and 25-22.

"We had the lead in every game, sometimes by five points, and then we allowed them to catch up and win," Murphy said. "We didn't have any fight left. I think morale is low and we need a win to boost confidence and self esteem."

Shanae Randall led with 16 good serves and 26 digs. Shelby was the top hitter with 15.

Junior varsity also had a tough time, losing first to Bridge City 25-12 and 25-17. It was their first district loss.

Julia Morris and Michelle Wallace led with six serves each.

The JV took their second district loss against Hardin-Jefferson, 25-15 and 25-23. They are now 2-2.

Coach Shareba Smith said her team was very distracted all last week but she thought they would regain their focus and get back on track for this week's games.

Jasper played Hamshire-Fannett last night and will be at home Friday night for the second round with Kirbyville.

Games begin at 5 pm. The rescheduled match with West Orange-Stark is Saturday at WO-S.
