Cats stay unbeaten, rout Liberty 38-14 behind Pierce's 3 TDs

Kirbyville tuned up for the start of District 21-3A play by rolling over Liberty 38-14 Friday, Sept. 21 on the road.

Senior Pierce Rhodes paced the Wildcats by rushing for 196 yards and three touchdowns.

"I thought we executed well and played good on defense," said Kirbyville Head Football Coach Jack Alvarez. "I was pleased with our outing. When you have a week off, you get worried about what kind of outing you are going to get but we got out there and played."

Kirbyville jumped out to a 6-0 lead at the 9:30 mark of the first quarter and pushed that lead to 12-0 midway through the first quarter.

The lead grew to 18-0 when the Wildcats again found the end zone with 3:02 left in the first quarter. By the time halftime rolled around, Kirbyville held a 24-7 lead over the Panthers.

Rhodes only played through the third quarter and then sat out the remainder of the contest.

"Once we got up by two scores, I said that was it for him and pulled him," Alvarez said. "There was no need to take any unnecessary chances."
