Ho-hum
Buna rolls past H-D 57-6
By JIMMY GALVAN Managing Editor

Buna Head Football Coach Bradley Morgan knew his Cougars would be improved this year.

He didn't know though that they would be this offensively potent.

Buna scored another impressive blowout victory Friday night when the Cougars blasted Hull- Daisetta 57-6 Friday, Sept. 21.

"We have been on a roll," Morgan said of his Cougars who improved to 4-0 on the season.

"I thought Hull-Daisetta played hard but they were just a little bit outmatched," Morgan said. "We are bigger and stronger and have more kids out but I was really impressed with their effort."

Buna amassed 458 yards to Hill-Daisetta's 149 for the contest, including 333 yards on the ground. That was an average of 8.12 yards per carry. The Cougars gained 21 first downs to Hull- Daisetta's seven.

But this week, the Cougars get down to the task at hand and that's District 24-2A play when Buna hosts Anahuac in the district opener.

Darrell Barbay will lead the Panthers into Cougar Stadium for a matchup of a contest last year that Buna lost to open district play.

"We had a good season last year but that was a black eye for us," Morgan said. "And that was the only district game they won last year. We feel like we have a little revenge and payback. I know Barbay will have his team ready.

"(Barbay) has done a good job wherever he has been and he comes from a good blood line," Morgan said of the son of Newton Head Football Coach Curtis Barbay. "He will have them prepared and we will have to play offensively and defensively to win the football game."

Morgan said the Cougars may be 4-0 to start the year but those games go out the window as district begins.

"Those four games don't mean anything now," Morgan said. "They don't mean anything as far as getting into the playoffs or winning district.

"We just need to keep doing what we've been doing - we've been successful doing it and I don't see no reason to change things now," Morgan said.
