Pickle steps in as assistant prosecutor
      Jasper attorney Anne J. Pickle has succeeded Alex Simmons as assistant prosecutor, according to District Attorney Steve Hollis. Simmons took a leave of absence early in September. When she returned, Hollis said Simmons submitted her letter of resignation Sept. 17.

TWC approves grant
      The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) announced last week that they have approved $1.4 million to expand and enhance foster youth transition centers like the HAY (Houston Alumni and Youth) Center. HAY assists youth ages 16- 15 in the transition from foster care to employment and selfsufficiency.

      Lots of graduates meet for reunions during football season, but a different group of graduates met at the Senior Counseling Center open house last week. The SCC is a Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital outreach program that helps those 55 and up deal with issues of aging, loss and depression.
