Kirbyville roars out to district opening victory

      Since 1946, Jasper has held an 18-2 winning advantage over Kirbyville. But in 2002, Jack Alvarez took over the reins of the Kirbyville football program and a district realignment pitted Kirbyville and Jasper back together again.

Dawgs face must-win game in Orangefield

      After last year's disappointing 28-21 loss to Kirbyville to open District 21-3A play, the Bulldogs came out and hosted the Orangefield Bobcats in the second game of the season. Jasper laid a big egg in a 33-7 pasting by Orangefield over the Bulldogs in the Bone Yard.

Barrows leads Jasper to second place CC finish

      Jasper junior varsity runner Matthew Barrows led his team to a second place trophy at Huntington's cross country meet Saturday. Barrows also finished second with a time of 19.43. He has been the JV team leader at all three of Jasper's outings this season.

      According to Woodville Head Football Coach Steve Fentress, the Eagles put together their most complete game of the year in Tarkington last Friday night in dismantling the Longhorns 49-13. "We played a much better game this. We actually played a full four quarters," Fentress said.

Stringer captures title at Wal-Mart BFLRegional

      It was down to the wire in a last minute win for Bradley Stringer at the Walmart BFLRegional on Sam Rayburn Sept. 29-30. The tournament began Saturday with an even field of 137 boaters and coanglers. The top 20 percent, or 27 anglers from each division would advance to fish the final day.

      Everybody has a first time- young rodeo contestants and young rodeo animals need to get acquainted and learn their way around an arena. The Texas High School Rodeo Association Region V held their "Get Acquainted" rodeo this past weekend in Jasper.
