Texas Medical offers free foot clinics to seniors

Free foot clinics are being offered by Texas Medical Enterprises for seniors age 65 and older, according to Debbie Hoke, community liason.

"The purpose is to provide free basic foot care to seniors in our area," Hoke explained. the Jasper-based Texas Medical office rotates monthly clinics between Newton, Woodville, Hemphill and San Augustine.

Staff members- registered and vocational nurses and home health aides- check for sores, poor circulation, and they trim or file toenails. They use a foot scrub and massage the lower legs with lotion.

"There is no charge and we do not receive any funds from Medicare or any other source," Hoke said. Seniors are asked to bring a towel and to fill out a basic information sheet that includes medical status on such conditions as diabetes, which affects circulation and healing in the feet.

Locations and dates will vary. For October, foot clinics will be in the Bean Center in Newton, Oct. 11, 10 a.m. - noon; Woodville, Oct. 17, 10 a.m. - noon; Hemphill, Oct. 23, 10 a.m. - noon; Nutritional Center in Newton, Oct. 25, 9-11 a.m.; and San Augustine, Oct. 26, 10 a.m. - noon.
