Breast cancer awareness month gets folks moving The American Cancer Society has declared October Breast Cancer Awareness month, a cause that brings Jasper residents to their feet. The Walk of Hope will take place rain or shine Saturday, Oct. 13. For more information, call Darlene Nolen at 384-8759, or pick up a donation form at Party Perfect, the Jasper Chamber of Commerce or Century 21. Curves, the women's fitness center at 520 S. Wheeler, will be promoting breast cancer awareness with donations and discounts for new members, a memory wall of donor certificates, and a treasure chest drawing for weekly prizes. "Breast cancer will touch about one in every eight women," according to Curves owner Cathie Clark. "But breast cancer death rates are going down as a result of finding cancer earlier and having access to improved treatment." Nolen, survivor coordinator for the Walk of Hope, says, "Every $50 we raise at our walk cn be used to provide a free mammogram for a woman who would not otherwise be able to receive this service." |
