Apply soon for Big Thicket trapping permit

Requests for permits for the 2007-08 trapping season in the Big Thicket National Preserve will be accepted Oct. 15-19 for selection by random drawing. Only 21 permits will be issued, according to Superintendent Todd Brindle.

Trappers must apply in person at the Preserve visitor center between 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. The center is eight miles north of Ksountze at the intersection of FM 420 and U.S. Highway 69. A valid driver's license or other official photo identification will be required.

Permits are issued by area, four for the Beaumont Unit, seven for Jack Gore Baygall Unit, seven for the Lance Rosier Unit, and three for the Neches Bottom.

Trappers can apply in more than one unit; however, permits may not be issued for all units requested. Applicants selected in the drawing must provide locations of their trap lines on a map provided by the preserve.
