Silsbee, Orangefield turn back Lady Dawgs
Jasper to meet Bridge City Friday
By GEORGIA PURDY Newsboy Correspondent

The Jasper Lady Bulldog volleyball team took hard hits from both Orangefield and Silsbee last week.

Jasper missed an opportunity to pick up their first district win when they lost to Orangefield Friday in three games, 25-11, 25-19 and 26-24.

"The last time we played Orangfield, we went five games," Coach Casey Murphy said. "It was disappointing to lose in three. I expected to come home with a win. We just didn't play."

Janice Shelby led in serves and hits, scoring 13 in each category. D'Aundrea Spikes dug up 30 balls in the three-game series.

Tuesday's contest with Silsbee was a tough one as expected, and the Lady 'Dogs came up short 25-12, 25-11 and 25-15.

"Silsbee has a great team- one of the top teams in the district," Murphy said. "Competition was tough. There wasn't a spot on the court we could put the ball that they couldn't get to."

Junior varsity also fell but by slimmer margins.

They lost game one in the Orangefield contest 25- 23, won game two 25-17 and played to a close 25-23 loss in game three.

Jocelyn Land had 15 good serves; Ruby Avant had nine hits.

Silsbee was also tough but even there, they played close, losing 25-13 in game one and going 26-25 in game two.

Michelle Wallace had seven good serves, and Breeunna Hafford led with 10 hits.

Jasper played West Orange-Stark last night and will meet Bridge City at home Friday.

The freshman game begins at 5 p.m., with JV and varsity to follow.
