NEWTON'S NEXT FOUR CONTESTS Newton Head Football Coach Curtis Barbay believes the district will come down to the Eagles and Corrigan-Camden. On Friday, Newton and Corrigan-Camden will face off in a district matchup that should be a good one. The Bulldogs will be attempting to replace last year's starting quarterback Trevor Drayton with his brother Chris Drayton. This one could go a long ways in determining the district champion. Oct. 19 at Shelbyville The Dragons have been overmatched season after season in District 21-2A and this year should be no different. Key returning players for the Dragons are Michael Andrews and Mac Gurley as both were all-district choices on defense last year for the Dragons. Oct. 26 Hemphill The Eagles host their district home opener and will face the Hemphill Hornets in a homecoming contest. The Eagles should be well rested and ready for this contest. The Hornets finished 4-2 in district last year and return 11 starters for this year's battles. Nov. 2 at Woodville This one might be a good one if Woodville continues with their winning ways. The Eagles have resurged under new coach Steve Fentress and jumped out to a 4-1 start in non-district action. Last year, these two squads teamed for a scorefest and this year might be Act II as they meet in Woodville. The game will be the senior night for the Eagles of Woodville and a fired up crowd should fuel Woodville. Next Newton update Nov. 14 |
