Time is now for education action

This Monday, parents of children enrolled in the Jasper Independent School District have the opportunity to let their voice known when it comes to the education of their children.

No longer will they have to sit anonymously on a phone in call show and complain about the school district but they can take their complaints directly to the teachers and administrators of the district.

They have let them know their true feelings about where they believe their children's education is going and not stand behind a telephone and remain anonymous.

They can but unfortunately, they won't.

This Monday, JISD will host is annual parent conferences day when parents are allowed to visit the campuses their children attend and talk with their teachers about their education.

They can see where their children are at and gain an informed opinion of their children's education. They can see, firsthand, what problems there might be and work together with the educators to improve the situation.

Education is a two-way street. It's simple to blame the schools when your children fail. It's easy to point a crooked finger when that finger should also be blamed at yourself as a parent when children fail in school.

The educational system can only do so much with children.

It takes an informed and involved parent to make the system work for everyone. Without everyone chipping in, the program can fail.

In these times, children are facing many more challenges in school than older generations ever faced. The threat of drugs, gangs and sexual overtures are in our students faces daily but with the combined forces parents and educators, this battle can be won.

The choice is yours. Become involved with your student's educational future or just a fixture on a call-in talk show.
