Kirbyville man arrested in double stabbing
Two transported to local hospitals

The Jasper County Sheriff's Department arrested Waylon Brawley, 18, of Kirbyville on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Lt. Paul Tomplait.

Tomplait said Deputy Shannon Meaux was dispatched Oct. 14 to a disturbance at a residence near Buna.

"When the deputy arrived, he found a white male on his back in the driveway, bleeding from the abdomen," Tomplait said. The victim was later identified as Allen Stone, 23, of Buna.

Cherie Lavertue, 22, of Buna, identified as Brawley's ex-girlfriend, was also stabbed, according to Tomplait.

Lavertue was transported to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital by Brawley, according to Sheriff Ronnie McBride. Stone was life-flighted to Christus St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. Both survived.

The dispute arose when Lavertue and Brawley were exchanging custody of their son.

"(Brawley) told the exgirlfriend he didn't want (Stone) on his property," Tomplait said. "When he saw her new boyfriend in the car, he (Brawley) started pushing her and verbally abusing her."

Tomplait said that escalated to a confrontation that ended with Brawley allegedly stabbing both victims.

Bond on Brawley was set at $50,000.
