Ways to earn funds to fight Cancer
Gift of Life pink shopping cards

As part of Cancer Awareness Month, area merchants have joined the pink shopping card campaign that raises money for the Julie Rogers Gift of Life program.

The pink cards will be sold as a $50 tax deductible donation to the Gift of Life, and the card entitles the buyer to a 20 percent discount Oct. 25-Nov. 4 at all area participating merchants, including Jasper and Beaumont.

Each $50 card pays for a mammogram for "medically underserved women in Southeast Texas, where 32 percent of the residents are without insurance," according to Pink Card coordinator Connie Berry.

Berry reports that the number of merchants who participate in the Pink Card has doubled this year, "a clear indication that local merchants realize that participating in this worthy project is very good for business during the designated pre-holiday shopping period."

Cards can be purchased in Jasper at Milam Street Gallery, Unique Boutique and Party Perfect. In addition to those locations, Novrosky's and Casa Ole will also honor the 20 percent discount in Jasper, and there are more than 300 merchants all over Southeast Texas that are participating.
