Rayburn Church teams up with ETHAN for Health Fair Anyone can get a free health screening at the Community Health Fair tomorrow, Oct. 25, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rayburn Baptist Church on the corner of 1007 and Lakeshore Drive. The checkup will include blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol and vision screenings, plus a foot exam if you bring your own towel. East Texas Health Access Network (ETHAN) is teaming up with Rayburn Baptist Church to provide this service and free health information to the public. Carlene Womack, executive director of ETHAN, told the Jasper County Commissioners a month ago that free screenings like this catch problems in early stages when they are easiest to treat and wind up saving money in the long run. For example, diabetics frequently suffer from foot infections because of poor circulation. A foot exam and a prescription in time may prevent an amputation later. The health fair in Rayburn is a just a warm up for the big medical camp ETHAN is planning for Saturday, Dec. 1, at Community Church on S. Wheeler in Jasper. It will include a more thorough examination, a chance to meet one-on-one with a physician or specialist, and is open to anyone. |
