Rainbow Room needs supplies

The Rainbow Room is seeking donations for babies, toddlers and teenagers; it is the emergency resource room designed to assist CPS (Child Protective Services) workers if a child must come into their custody.

"These are the children of our community, children who need people like you and me to step up and lend a hand. If we don't, who will?" said Shari Gunter, secretary for the Jasper County Community Partners.

JCCP is affiliated with the Greater Texas Community Partners. The Rainbow Rooms they sponsor stock new clothes, toys, and necessities for children of all ages. If a child must be removed from a home, it may be the middle of the night and it is often with only the clothes on their backs. ACPS worker can find what they need in the Rainbow Room, which offers children "new possessions that are clean and just for them, to bring with them to their placement."

According to Gunter, more than 207,000 child abuse and neglect cases are reported in Texas each year. After investigations, 27,000 children are removed to foster care and 3,400 are placed for adoption.

To make a donation to the Rainbow Room, call JCCP president Laura Moore at 658-9680 or bring a donation to the CPS office at 928 Marvin Hancock Drive in Jasper.
