The East Texas Art League is thinking small for the holidays. The new "Think Small" exhibit includes works from local artists Carol Gilchrist, Bill and Carol Wise, Pat Tatum, Margo Roll, Louise Townsend, Susan Cornell, Anita Machek, June Reid, and Tina Barrow, president of ETAL.

Barrow said the exhibit is "sized to make art affordable" for holiday shopping.

The East Texas Art League, located in what was once the Old Morgan Hotel, formed in 2001 and became incorporated in July 2002.

ETAL showcases local, regional, and nationally recognized artists with a new exhibit every month featuring different styles of art. they also offer classes in various media, including water color, acrylics, oils, pastels, and ceramics. Classes are held in the spring and fall, with workshops throughout the year.

In October of 2008 Susan Ogilvie, an internationally known pastel artist, will give classes at ETAL. Participants from around the state come to be taught by her, according to Barrow.

For the first time. ETAL is planning two open call shows for artists outside the area to feature their artwork. This will allow artists who do not have a place to display their work to show new styles in Jasper.

ETAL is run by volunteers, and is open Tues. - Fri. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. For more information call the East Texas Art League at 384-2404.
