Sing along with cowboy crooners at Dies Park Martin Dies Jr. State Park will hold their annual cowboy campfire and concert Saturday, Nov. 17, 2 - 5 p.m. in and around the dining hall on the Walnut side. Kids can enjoy popgun target shooting, stick horse barrel racing, a cow patty toss (not the genuine article) and roping practice. Buckaroos receive temporary tattoos and sheriff's badges. The day's events include chili served with sourdough biscuits or cornbread and cowboy coffee, all prepared over an open campfire. Three park rangers playing guitar, bass and fiddle will put on a live sing-along concert, and an area historian will read cowboy poetry. Martin Dies Jr. State Park is located on U.S. Hwy 190 11 miles west of Jasper. Daily entrance fee is $3. For more information, call 384-5231. |
