Army Pvt. Shawn E. Atkins has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC. During the nine weeks of training the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values. He improved his physical fitness and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warefare and bayonet training. Atkins practiced drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. Atkins is the son of Fawn Atkins of Kirbyville. Hadnot Army Staff Sgt. James A. Hadnot has deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The soldier is a member of the 17th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion stationed at Fort Richardson, Anchorage, AK. Members of the support battalion will provide a headquarters for 1,500 transportation soldiers based in northern Iraq. Hadnot, a shower/laundry and clothing repair supervisor, has served in the military for 18 years. He is the son of Ollie B. Hadnot of E. Broad St., Jasper, Texas. The sergeant is a 1984 graduate of Jasper High School. Lynch Army Pvt. Dustin R. Lynch has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training. He was educated on drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. He is the son of Rhonda Holcomb and grandson of Linda Hall, both of Woodville. Lynch is a 2007 graduate of Woodville High School. O'Quain Air Force Airman Jessica A. O'Quain has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. She is the daughter of Georgie O'Quain of Newton and granddaughter of Dorothy Armstrong of Bon Wier. O'Quain is a 2007 graduate of Newton High School. Simmons Army Pvt. Carlos D. Simmons has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC. During the nine weeks of training the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values. Simmons is the son of Lola Simmons of Jasper and the brother of Sonya Townsend of Humble. He is 2001 graduate of Jasper High School. Weigand Army National Guard Pvt. Dorothy J. Weigand has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC. During the nine weeks of training the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values. She improved her physical fitness and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warefare and bayonet training. Weigand practiced drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. Weigand is the daughter of Michele Surochak of Weatherly, PA. Her greataunt is Elizabeth Williams of Kirbyville. She is currently attending Weatherly High School. |
