It's playoff time

All year long Jasper Head Football Coach Thomas Brooks said he aimed at putting the Bulldogs back into the playoffs.

Hello playoffs.

With Friday's thrilling 40- 34 victory over Silsbee, the Bulldogs will advance to the playoffs to take on the Splendora Wildcats at 1 p.m. at Turner Stadium in Humble.

"This is what we have talked about all year and we did it, but we're not satisfied with it," Brooks said. "I don't know how far we can go but I think we are peaking at the right time."

And Jasper will be relatively healthy as the playoffs are set to begin.

Junior Carlos Carter is expected to be back in the lineup and the only question mark is junior Fred Jackson, who is still out with a foot injury. "We are as healthy as we have ever been this year," Brooks said. "There are no excuses. We are healthy now so we will take it one game at a time and see how far we can go."

Right now, Brooks said all he is focusing on is Splendora and that's it. In fact, he doesn't even want to talk about the next round if Jasper were to defeat the Wildcats.

"I just found out Monday who we would play if we win because we

have to make plans in advance and

that's the only reason I know,"

Brooks said. "I don't really like talking

about the next week at all.

"There won't be a next week if we don't focus on this one," Brooks said.

And focus on Splendora is just what Jasper is doing. Brooks said the Wildcats like to run the ball right at their opponent.

"They run a lot of power I and isolation and some sweeps," Brooks said. "They get all 11 packed in together and run right at you."

Defensively, Splendora runs a 50 defense and cover four in the secondary.

"They are a good team - they won their district and that says a lot about them," Brooks said.

Brooks said he is not overly concerned about playing a playoff game with a 1 p.m. start time.

THE SCREAMING COMING FROM the Bone Yard Friday night was the sounds of celebration following Jasper's thrilling 40-34 victory over Silsbee. The victory sent Jasper into the Class 3A playoffs. Jasper's players, coaches and fans all celebrated the big win for the Dawgs.
"They haven't played in the day time either," Brooks said. "It's still football. We just have to get up a little earlier to travel there."
