Commissioners canvass election

Elections officer Debbie Newman presented the results of the Nov. 6 voting to the Jasper County Commissioners Court Nov. 19.

Atotal of 1,409 voters, less than seven percent of the county's registered voters, voted in the election for 16 state propositions.

Jasper voters mirrored the state vote except for one. Votes for Proposition 4 were 708 against to 646 for an amendment to authorize $1 billion in additional state bonds for prisons, DPS, mental health and other state projects.

The League of Women Voters, speaking against the proposition, said the state should rely on a "pay as you go" policy.

All 16 propositions passed at the state level.
