TFA gives Bryan leadership award

John Bryan of Jasper received the Texas Forestry Association 2007 leadership award at the TFA convention held in College Station Oct. 24-26.

The award was given in recognition of Bryan's years of leadership, including being chair of the Texas Forest Landowners Council. The council assists private landowners with issues like carbon credits, timber theft and logging.

The hand-carved wood plaque with a pinecone gavel is made by Texas artist Bruce Cunningham and commemorates former TFA director Ken Wagner.

TFA, whose headquarters are in Lufkin, has approximately 3,000 members made up of forest landowners, loggers, wood products industries and forestry professionals.

Bryan owns a 100-acre tree farm in Newton County. He and his wife Emily live in the Curtis Community in Jasper County.
