Christian to seek re-election in 2008 State Representative Wayne Christian (R-Center) announced today that he intends to seek re-election next year as representative of House District 9, which includes Jasper, Nacogdoches, Sabine, San Augustine, and Shelby counties. Christian recently participated in his fifth session in the Texas House of Representatives this spring and was appointed to the House Committee on State Affairs as well as Vice Chair of the House Committee on Regulated Industries. "It has been a great honor and privilege to represent my home and East Texas neighbors in the Texas House over the last decade," said Christian. "I believe that it is very important to represent our strong moral values, encourage limited government, and speak for our families in the state Capitol." During the 80th Legislative session this year, Christian worked with community leaders and local officials to bring the needs of District 9 to the attention of state officials in Austin. "Using the seniority that my fellow citizens have entrusted to me, I accomplished the only tuition revenue bond funding given to state universities for the SFA Nursing School and obtained a lake level agreement on Toledo Bend after being told that both tasks were impossible. I continue to realize how important seniority is in the legislative process and how experience and relationships play a large role in getting legislation through successfully," commented Christian. "It was exciting to be a part of these victories for East Texas." Throughout his last five sessions, Rep. Christian has kept careful watch on matters relating to East Texas natural resources and rural priorities and provided a consistent voice for District 9. "Being a rural area, we have one vote for our five counties in the House, while the large cities have many more. I re-entered the legislative process in 2007 to serve East Texas and am asking for a sixth term to continue passing vital legislation, not only to benefit District 9, but also for the entire state." |
