Girl Scouts collecting for One Warm Coat

EVEN IN TEXAS there are days when a hooded sweatshirt isn't enough, and a small child finds refuge from the cold north wind in a man's extra-large jacket. Girl Scouts in Jasper, Newton and Kirbyville will collect for the One Warm Coat drive today through Dec. 5 at 130 N.Wheeler. Newsboy file photo
On a blustery winter day 15 years ago, a woman Union Square in San Francisco started the One Warm Coat drive to help those in need. Lois Pavlow's idea has grown to an international effort.

The Girls Scouts of Jasper, Newton and Kirbyville will assist the One Warm Coat drive by collecting all kinds of coats and jackets for men, women and children.

The Eastern Horizon service unit #407 of the Girl Scouts will accept donations of new or "gently worn" coats Nov. 28 - Dec. 5 at 130 N. Wheeler.

This year donations will go to Star Ministries in Kirbyville, which helps battered women and children.
