Our Viewpoint Editorials The spirit of Jasper came shining through this week when it was announced that the school district's Give a Gift program was well funded and received this year. The program was in danger of disappearing from the educational landscape but Jasper County residents stepped up to the plate and responded to the challenge by funding this much-needed program. The program will help students in our education system with different learning tools. One student remarked, "This is fun. We get to do fun stuff and there are a lot of activities." Now, how many times have you heard that coming from a classroom? That shows how much a difference this program and the donations given to it can make in the learning process of a student. It takes the normal learning process and adds a little to it and makes it a process that the students can relate to on a fun level. Once you make education fun, well, half the battle is over. Congratulations to the JISD officials for staying with the program. It is needed and should remain a valuable tool in the education process for years to come. Congratulations to the many organizations, school reunion committees and residents for funding this program and keeping it going strong for another year. Jasper has always been known as a community that takes care of itself. During Hurricane Rita, neighbors helped neighbors and we pulled ourselves up and through a difficult process. This time, Jasper stepped up once again but this time, we helped secure a stronger future for our community. The students will reap the immediate rewards from this program but we will all benefit in the long run as we educate tomorrow's leaders through the programs of today. Well done, Jasper. Roses go to…. t The Jasper football Bulldogs for an inspired effort against the Navasota Rattlers last Friday in Humble. Navasota defeated Jasper 42-40 to advance in the playoffs but Jasper completed a strong season and showed that football in Jasper is firmly back on the map. t Newton and Kirbyville football programs. Both are still in the playoff hunt this week. Good luck to both squads. t ETHAN medical camp, which will be held Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Community Church. The program offers a medical hand to many in the community. |
