Lucy Edna Stice

Lucy Edna Stice, "Aunt Peggy", was born February 16, 1910, in Como, TX to James Henry and Sarah Combs. She passed away peacefully, December 1, 2007, at Jenny Branch Assisted Living, Jasper, TX.

Her parents, her seven siblings and her husband, John Stice, preceded her in death.

At an early age, Lucy decided that she did not like her given name. She called herself Peggy. That is how family and friends will remember her. In January 1928, she began working as a telephone operator in San Antonio, TX. She retired from Southwestern Bell in 1973 while serving in an administrative position in Dallas, TX. She moved to Phoenix and Sun City, AZ until January 2000 when she became a resident at Jenny Branch Assisted Living in Jasper, TX. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Jasper, TX.

"Aunt Peggy" had no children of her own. She took great pleasure in spoiling her many nephews, nieces and all of their children. They tell stories of fishing and camping trips, popcorn and the "picture show", Six Flags, ice cream cones, vacation trips and the wonder dog, Spot. Wherever she lived, feeding the ducks with the children was always part of the visit. She leaves to her family and many friends the example of living life to the fullest, laughter and unconditional love. Her faith in the Lord never failed. That faith gives comfort to all who knew her and provides peace and laughter even in sorrow.

Survivors are Tas (Dorothy) and Joe McGraw, Jasper, TX; Cathy and Chris O'Connor, Oklahoma City, OK; Pat and Rick Carr, New Castle, OK; Benny and Doris McCord, Fredericksburg, TX; Billy and Mary McCord, Garland, TX, Loyd McCord, Springdale, AR; Sara Mae Miller, Como, TX, many great, great great, and great great great-nieces, nephews and friends.

The family offers a sincere "thank you " to the staff of Lakes Area Hospice, the staff of Jenny Branch and Jamie Clark for the diligent care, compassion and love given to Ms. Peggy.

Funeral services were held December 4, 2007 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper, with burial at Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lakes area Hospice, 254 Ethel Street, Jasper, TX; First United Methodist Church, 329 Bowie St., Jasper, Texas 75951, or the charity of your choice.
