Jasper's Patton nets football honors at Missouri Southern

Jordan Patton, former Jasper Bulldog football player, was named to the All-Mid America Intercollegiate Athletics Association for 2007 at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, MO.

Patton was named to the second team All MIAA for the defense. Patton, defensive back for MSSU, finished second in the MIAA in interceptions and led the MIAA in passes defended, while helping the Southern backfield to the second most interceptions in school history.

The Lions intercepted 21 passes this season, the most since 1975 when Southern set the school record with 25. Patton has five picks on the season, the most since 2005.

Southern ranks first in the MIAA in pass defense and interceptions and ranks second overall in Division II.

For 2007 National Leaders II, Patton is 18th in the country in interceptions. The Lions placed ten on the All-MIAA Squad this season.

Patton was a leader on the 2004 Jasper Bulldog football squad that advanced in the Class 3A playoffs.

Patton transferred to Missouri Southern this past school year from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA, where he played football and ran track for two years.

Patton is the son of Rosie Miller-Mays, former Jasper High School volleyball/ basketball coach who is now employed by Hemphill ISD as the girls athletic coordinator/head volleyball and basketball coach.
