Smith to seek Pct. 3 commissioner's post

Weldon Smith has announced his candidacy for Jasper County Precinct 3 Commissioner.

"During my 15 years of service I have worked for two commissioners," said Smith, who recently retired from his position with Jasper County. "I am proud that I was a part of the improvements made on our roads and bridges.

"As an employee of Jasper County, I was also a first responder during the hurricanes, tornadoes and floods," Smith said. "Since my retirement, I have been employed as an operator."

Smith has been married for 41 years to his wife, Elizabeth and has five children and 11 grandchildren.

Smith has served the Kirbyville community in the past as a board member of the Kirbyville Consolidated Independent School District and currently serves on the Jasper-Newton Electric Cooperative Share committee.

"I would like the opportunity to continue to serve our community and county," Smith said.
