Early candidates file for county March primary Fourteen people have filed to run in the March county election in the first two weeks, Dec. 3 - 17; candidates have until Jan. 2 to submit their application for a place on the March ballot, according to Jasper County Clerk Debbie Newman. For Jasper County Sheriff, incumbent Ronnie McBride, Mitchel Newman and Paul Brister have filed and paid fees. For Precinct 1, incumbent commissioner Charles Shofner Junior was unopposed as of Dec. 17. Two have filed for the Precinct 3 seat, incumbent Willie Stark and Weldon Smith. In the constable's race, Kit Stephenson has filed for Precinct 1, Ralph Nichols for Precinct 2, Ronnie Hutchison for Precinct 3, Gene Hawthorne for Precinct 4, Gerald McAdams for Precinct 5, and Tommy Robinson and Joe Dunigan for Precinct 6. Bobby Biscamp will again run for Jasper County Tax Assessor. The Jasper Newsboy will run candidate announcements free of charge through the Jan. 9 issue. All candidates seeking office are urged to place their announcements with the Newsboy by that date. |
