Getting it straight

The Jasper Newsboy incorrectly reported a statement in Jasper County Sheriff Ronnie McBride's announcement of his intent to run for reelection and regrets the omission of a word.

The statement should read: "The jail facility has passed random inspections by the commission without deficiences" ('out' was left out).

In fact, the jail had another inspection Dec. 13 and again passed without deficiencies according to The Texas Commission on Jail Standards.

Chief Deputy Jack Jett says the new jail facility has made "all the difference in the world."

The size of the jail and the continuing good reports have enabled Jasper County to contract with other counties to house their inmates and bring in revenue for doing so, according to Jett.

Jail Administrator Diane Brown said the inspections include the viewing the facility, performing a fire drill, and going through all the paperwork to be sure everything is in order. These surprise inspections come at random intervals.

"I credit our good reports to the staff who work all year long to keep everything up to Jail Commission standards at all times," Brown said.
