As the Class 3A playoffs continued, one aspect became perfectly clear. District 21-3A was well represented in the playoffs.

Jasper and Kirbyville earned 15 and 11 spots respectfully on the District 21-3A football All-District teams announced after the season.

Kirbyville senior Pierce Rhodes was named MVP of the district after a strong year. Rhodes paced the Wildcats' offensive attack all year long and will be hard to replace next year.

"I thank the good Lord that (Rhodes) was back this year," said Kirbyville Head Football Coach Jack Alvarez before the start of the 2007 season.

Jasper sophomore quarterback Dominique Bailey was named co-offensive newcomer of the year for the Bulldogs. Bailey took over the quarterback duties for the Dawgs after the first district game and was sterling throughout the remainder of the season.

"He's an athlete," said Jasper Head Football Coach Thomas Brooks before the season began of Bailey. "His leaping ability is incredible. He is one of those guys that we have to have on the field as much as possible."

Jasper earned two first-team offensive selections for the season.

Senior Malcolm Bronson was named at the wide receiver position. Bronson was a key offensive cog for the Dawgs as he gathered in 21 receptions in district play for a team-high 338 yards and four touchdowns.

"I am very proud of his attitude and his dedication to this program," Brooks said of Bronson. Joining Bronson on the offensive first-team was junior offensive lineman Cliff Mitchell. Mitchell was a key component of the offensive line that opened up running lanes for Bailey in district play.

"He's rangy and big and he has potential to be highly recruited," Brooks said. "Cliff can get a little nasty. He doesn't mind mixing it up."

Kirbyville, which finished in second place in district, placed five players on the first-team offensive squad.

Junior quarterback Aaron Hazelwood was named as a first-team quarterback. Joining Hazelwood in the offensive backfield was junior running back Broderick Jackson.

Two Kirbyville offensive linemen gained first-team offensive line selections. Seniors Ryan Jones and Chris Samuel were named to the first-team offensive line and provided big running lanes for the Wildcat running backs during the district campaign.

Jasper placed four players on the first-team defensive squad.

Leading the way was unanimous selection junior Dante Rollins. Rollins was a key player in Jasper's defensive scheme all year long and will fill the same role next year as a senior.

"Dante has a lot of athletic ability," Brooks said. "Probably, more than what he knows. Potentially, he can be one of the best that we have."

Junior nose guard Carlos Carter earned a first-team nod after a strong junior year for the Bulldogs. Joining him on the defensive line was senior Trey Horn, who always had a role in big defensive plays for the Dawgs.

"He's fast, strong, tenacious and this kid goes 100 percent on every play," Brooks said. "When you go against Carlos, you better bring it. Carlos has no friends in practice and that's what I like about him."

Senior William Brooks was Jasper's final firstteam selection as he gained a nod as a defensive back. Brooks played a strong leadership role for the Bulldogs and also saw time at the running back position during the district year.

"I felt bad moving him as a senior but at the same time it wasn't like I was moving him to a place that he didn't know," Brooks said.

Kirbyville placed two players on the first-team all-district team.

Senior Dre Jackson gained a first-team nod at defensive lineman while Broderick Jackson earned a pick at defensive back.

Jasper placed four players on the second-team offensive squad.

Junior wide receiver Kwame Spikes, who finished the year with 114 yards receiving in district, gained a second-team selection.

Jasper also placed three offensive linemen on the second-team squad. Center Trey Horn, senior lineman Michael Crowell and junior lineman Kimpton Lewis earned second-team nods.

Kirbyville's Frank McMickle gained a secondteam selection on the offensive line.

Jasper placed four players on the second-team defensive squad.

AJ Bronson earned a second team defensive selection after a strong junior year. Senior outside linebacker Xavier Mays also gained a second-team selection.

Junior Ryan Bronson was named to the second-team defensive squad while senior punter Derrick Day was named to the second-team squad.

Kirbyville's outside linebacker Desmond Everett was named to the secondteam after a strong junior year. Senior defensive back Joey Alfred gained a second team selection for the Wildcats.
