BUNA'S RYAN SHEPPARD was named to the District 24-2A all-district team at second-team quarterback and first-team defensive safety.
When you have large number of seniors returning to your squad, two things can be expected.

First, you will produce a good season and second, you will dominate the alldistrict squad.

"This is the best team we have had here in a long time," said Buna Head Football Coach Bradley Morgan. "We had some teams that if we would have been on the 2A level, we could have played in the playoffs.

"All of our seniors can play. They have been a good group since the seventh grade and they've experienced some success even when we played at the Class 3A level," Morgan said. "They have been successful and have experienced some success ever since they were in the seventh grade. They were the leaders of the team and we had some juniors and sophomores step up for us this year. The seniors played to win this year. They are a big part to what happened this year for us."

Buna completed both measures as 22 Cougars were named to the District 24-2A All-District teams.

Anthony Smith
Buna finished the year with a 9-2 record and was co-district champion in District 24-2A with East Chambers, who placed 11 players on the all-district squads.

Leading the way with first-team offensive selections for the Cougars was senior running back Anthony Smith, who rushed for 1,143 yards and 13 touchdowns for the season. Smith averaged 114 yards per game to pace the Cougars rushing attack and was a unanimous selection.

Joining Smith on the firstteam offensive squad was senior tight end Luke Clark. Clark led Buna with 250 yards receiving and four touchdowns.

For Smith and Clark to excel offensively, they needed support from the offensive line and three Buna players were named to the first-team offensive line.

Senior Cody Holland earned a unanimous selection at guard and was joined by senior tackles Travis Harding and Kris Dotson.

Senior Justin Carrell was named to the first-team offense as a utility player. Carrell rushed for 354 yards and four touchdowns for the Coogs and passed for 209 yards in some quarterback action. Carrell also hauled in two passes for Buna this year and made both of them count as he scored on both of them.

Luke Clark
One key to Buna success this year was with their kicker and senior Kyle Clark was named to the first-team alldistrict squad as well. Clark converted on 51-56 extra points during the season and hit oneof three field goals.

You might be flashy with offense but defense will win you ballgames and Buna placed five players on the first-team alldistrict squad.

Leading the way was senior Dillon Moss, who was a unanimous choice at defensive tackle. Moss recorded 30 solo tackles to finish fourth on the team in tackles as well as recording two sacks.

Senior inside linebacker Bryan Holmes earned a unanimous choice as well. Holmes recorded 33 solo tackles and was third on the team in tackles and had one sack. Holmes also caused three fumbles and had one interception.

Senior outside linebacker Anthony Smith was picked to the first team. Smith had 31 solo tackles for the Cougars this year. Smith also recorded three interceptions and caused one fumble.

Sheppard led the way on second-team selections as he gained a spot as the secondteam quarterback. Sheppard rushed for 195 yards and five touchdowns while passing for a team high 389 yards and six touchdowns.

Joining Sheppard on the second-team was senior Bryan Holmes at running back. Holmes rushed for 699 yards and tied for the teamlead in touchdowns with 13. Holmes averaged 69 yards per game for the Cougars.

Senior guard Josh Jeans was named to the secondteam offensive squad for the Coogs. Jeans was instrumental at breaking up holes for Buna's vaunted rushing attack.

Travis Harding
Senior Garrett McDaniel led Buna's second-team defensive selections. McDaniel recorded 19 solo tackles and chipped in 41 total tackles.

Sophomore cornerback Josh Clark was a secondteam selection as well. Clark had 16 solo tackles and had four interceptions with 129 return yards.

Buna players garnering honorable mention selections include Justin Lawson at center, Dylan Hussey and defensive outside linebacker, Daniel Gilkerson at outside linebacker and Kolby Baxter at defensive end.

"I think the community and the kids were proud of the accomplishment that they made this year," Morgan said. "It has been a long time since Buna has won nine football games.
