We have plenty to be thankful for this year

Santa has come and gone for another year and left under your tree presents for you and your family to enjoy. But it is at this time that we take time to reflect on all the "presents" that were enjoyed by the Jasper County community during this past year. We're thankful for Glenn Beatty Jr., who saved family members from a burning house fire in January. Beatty proved that heroes come in all ages.

We're thankful for a federal grant that allowed expansion at the Jasper Teaching Center to become a reality. It proved the federal government does lend a helping hand to Southeast Texas afterall.

We're thankful for Thomas Brooks, who came back to Jasper to take over the reins of the Jasper athletic program. In one short season, Jasper football came back and took back its rightful place in Southeast Texas football scene.

We're thankful for Bill "Butch" Dean, who was named superintendent of Jasper ISD schools. Dean proved to be just the right choice for the position.

We're thankful for Jaylon Clotiaux's recovery, he scared the entire city when he slammed into a brick wall head first. Even though he remembers nothing of the incident, Clotiaux recovered in time to watch his Dawgs capture the Class 3A state championship.
