McBride says Buna shooting drug-related
By JIMMY GALVAN Managing Editor

A26-year-old Buna man is recovering after receiving a gunshot wound to the leg Friday, Dec. 21, in Buna.

Jasper County deputies were dispatched to the Walnut Run Apartments in Buna after a reported drive-by shooting. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found Chircorean Kareem Dill, who had been shot once in the leg with a .22 caliber rifle.

Jasper County deputies arrested Joshua Brooks, 17 and Eric Spikes, 24, both of DeQuincy, LA. in connection with the shooting. According to sheriff's reports, both have been charged with possession of a controlled substance.

"The rifle was recovered and the shooters were arrested," said Jasper County Sheriff Ronnie McBride, who added that additional charges are pending against the two suspects.

According to McBride, Brooks and Spikes were stopped after the vehicle they were driving was spotted on FM 1004 near Call Junction. Both were arrested without incident.

While early reports indicated that the incident was a random drive-by shooting, county investigators have since learned that the shooting was a result of a face-toface drug confrontation.

"It wasn't a drive-by shooting as it was reported to 911 operators," McBride said. "It was just a drug deal gone bad."

This will mark the second time Dill had been shot in a drug-related shooting.

In January of 2006, Dill was shot during an argument over drugs with Abdul Bluitt, 28 in Buna.
