Training for seniors

Seniors age 55+ who are having difficulty finding a job may be eligible for free training while they work at paid part-time positions, according to Sandy Abshire at Experience Works.

The program matches seniors who need to learn or update skills with organizations that need temporary part-time help. Experience Works pays the senior employees hourly wages while the older worker gets training that should enable them to succeed in the job market.

Government entities and eligible non-profit organizations can get much needed part-time help at no cost to them. The program is part of the Senior Community Service Employment Program funded under Title V of the Older Americans Act.

Two seminars and signup sessions will be held Jan. 8 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Jasper Workforce Solutions, 710 S. Wheeler.

For more information, call Abshire at 936-327- 0250.
