Jasper garbage pickup

The city of Jasper will pickup Jan. 1 garbage today and Wed. - Fri. pickups will stay the same.

Archeological Society

The Deep East Texas Archeological Society will meet Jan. 7 at the Newton County History Center. The group will be given a tour of the History Center Museum and will plan events for the new year.

Experience Works

Jasper Workforce Solutions will hold seminars and sign-up sessions Jan. 8 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for people ages 55+ for Experience Works, a program of paid part-time employment/training for people having difficulty finding a job. Workforce Solutions is located at 710 S. Wheeler in the Community Church shopping center.

Rose society

The Lakes Area Rose Society will meet Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Jasper City Council Room, 465 S. Main, in Jasper. A slide program will be presented, discussion on fine-tuning rose buds, and rose catalogs distributed. Call 423-4756 for more information.

Chamber banquet

The Jasper Lake Sam Rayburn Area Chamber of Commerce annual recognition banquet will be held at the First United Methodist at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 25. To sponsor a table, purchase tickets, or reserve seating call the Chamber at 384- 2762.

Hearing loss workshop

Project Graduation

Jasper Project Graduation meets the first Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. in the Jasper High School Library. All seniors and parents need to attend to discuss fundraisers, the point system, and other information. For more information call Charla James at 384-7866.

Senior Volunteers

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program needs volunteers, age 55 and up, to fill many areas of need in Jasper and Newton counties. Call Ginger Studensky at 384-5704, ext. 271.

Food bank

Harvest Church at 1501 S. Wheeler now offers a food bank the first Tuesday of each month 9 - 11 a.m.

Grief support

The Friends of Job helps those who have lost a child, grandchild or sibling. They meet the first and third Tuesday each month 6:30-8 p.m. at First Baptist Church. For more information call 698-2356.

Cancer control

Jasper-Newton County Public Health District's breast and cervical cancer control program offers women free breast exams, mammography and pap smear for those eligible. Call Jasper - 384-6829; Newton - 379-5291; Kirbyville - 423-6133 or the Buna -994-5921, Monday - Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

HELP needed

The Health Equipment Loaner Program (HELP) provides uninsured and underinsured individuals with medical equipment at no cost. Call ETHAN 384-2099 or come by 117 W. Houston St. in Jasper.

Keep Jasper Beautiful

Keep Jasper Beautiful will have a luncheon meeting the first Tues. of every month 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Woman's Civic Club at 156 W. Milam.

Bereavement luncheon

Caring Friends bereavement luncheon is held the third Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Belle-Jim Hotel, hosted by Lakes Area Hospice (384-5995) and Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home (384-5781).

Regional arts

East Texas Regional Art Center in Jasper features rotating exhibits. The art league meets the first Monday of each monsth and is open to the public. For more information call 384- 2404 or 489-9460.
