Lady Dogs fall to Bridge City 60-47

The Jasper Lady Bulldogs turned a 10-point lead into a 13-point loss to Bridge City, Tuesday, Dec. 18, on their home court. Jasper led 32-22 at the half, but turnovers and missed shots in the second half yielded a third district 60-47 defeat in as many games.

In the third quarter, Jasper led off with a bucket then committed three turnovers and several missed shots that allowed the Lady Cardinals to pull to within four points. Bridge City scored another four points while the Lady Bulldogs committed two more turnovers, which left them at 38-36.

Jasper bounced back when Shalithia Middleton forced a turnover and Breeunna Hafford tied the score at 38-38. Middleton then sprinted down court on another Bridge City turnover to put Jasper up 40-38 at the end of the quarter.

The Lady 'Dogs opened the fourth period with four misses, allowing the Lady Cardinals to tie the game at 44- 44 and then pull ahead 47-44 on a three-pointer. Jasper then missed two outside shots and sent Bridge City to the free throw line for two, leaving them trailing 45-51.

Bridge City dumped in nine extra points while Jasper committed two more turnovers. At game's end the Lady Cardinals held a 60-47 victory and had scored 21 points to Jasper's 7.

""We just didn't play a full game," Coach Joe Baker said. "We had our opportunities and didn't take them."

Breeunna Hafford led Jasper's scoring effort with 12 points, Anna Nation followed with eight, and Courtney Baker and Brandi Goff had six each.

The Lady Bulldogs will play the Livingston JV tournament Dec. 26-27 and the varsity tournament Dec. 27- 28. Their next home game is Jan. 4 against West Orange-Stark.
