Jones announces candidacy for Newton County Sheriff's post
"As most of you know, I have been a Texas Highway Patrol State Trooper, stationed in Newton County for the past 22 years," Jones said. "My retirement was effective Dec. 31, 2007. I could not announce my candidacy for sheriff until after that date." Jones is married to Debbie Miller Jones and they have three sons Steve, Randy and wife Jody, and Scott and wife Kristenn. They have five grandchildren and another on the way. "I was born and raised in Bleakwood. Most of you know my family through Jones Store," Jones said. "My roots go way back in Newton County on both sides of the family, the Jones family in Bleakwood and Woods family in Burkeville. Debbie and I are members of the Missionary Baptist Church, in Kirbyville. "I have 28 years of experience in law enforcement. I served four years in the U.S. Air Force as a Law Enforcement Specialist and investigator, two years with the Kirbyville Police Department, and 22 years as a Texas State Trooper. I currently hold a Masters Certificate in Law Enforcement. "While working in both Newton and Jasper counties as a State Trooper, I have had a good relationship with all other law enforcement agencies and local officials," Jones said. "Nearly my entire law enforcement career has been here in Newton County and I would like to continue that career as your sheriff. "If elected, the motto I have had as a Trooper will continue, and that is Courtesy-Service- and Protection," Jones said. |
