Theater troupe looking for stars, people who know which end of hammer to use

The third play of the season from the Jasper Community Theater is a classic: Neil Simon's first play, "Come Blow Your Horn," a three-act comedy.

Director Mary Ann McCoy says tryouts will be held at the Violet Tonahill Theater on U.S. 96 in Jasper on Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 28 and 29, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

"Auditions are open to all. We will be casting for three women and four men," according to McCoy. She said the part of the ingénue would be perfect for a newcomer who just wants "a taste" of the theater in "a tasty small part."

McCoy and codirector Liz Connell are also worried about casting the younger brother, a much meatier role.

"We need more young people to get involved," McCoy said. "We have so much fun during rehearsals, and it's not a big lifetime commitment."

Rehearsals will begin in February for the play that runs for six performances in mid April.

The JCT troupe also needs volunteers to help with all phases of production, including lighting, sets and costumes.

"Someone who knows which end of paintbrush and isn't afraid to use it," McCoy said.
