Dawgs jump out to 3-0 district run
By GEORGIA PURDY Newsboy Correspondent

Dominique Bailey
The Jasper Bulldogs posted their third district win when they defeated West Orange-Stark 63-34 Friday night on the road. Guard Dominique Bailey pumped in a whopping 37 points, outscoring the Mustangs by himself.

Jasper held a 27-14 lead at halftime, holding the Mustangs to five points in the first quarter and nine in the second.

"We controlled the boards so we controlled the game," Coach Terry Young said.

At the end of the third quarter, Jasper had added another 18 points to go up 45-25. Ditto for the fourth period, leaving the Mustangs to eek out a mere nine points.

"DJ Jackson and Terrence Avant played big and that allowed our quick guards to get out into our transition or running game which plays to our strength," Young said.

Jackson pulled down 13 rebounds while Aaron Garrett and Avant had seven each.

In addition to Bailey's 37 points, Kwame Spikes contributed eight points; followed by Jackson, five; Christian Goff, four; Garrett and Avant, two each; Roderick Williams and Cameron Stubblefield, two each and Jaren Bronson, one.

WO-S finished with 20 turnovers to Jasper's 13.

In earlier play, the 'Dogs defeated Hamshire- Fannett 68-43 Dec. 21. Jasper led 15-6 in the first quarter and was up 32-18 at the half. In the third period, Jasper shot 10 to HF's nine and pumped in 26 points in the fourth.

Spikes led Jasper's effort with 16 points, followed by Bailey, 12; Garrett and Williams, and Bronson, eight each; Jackson and Stubblefield, six each; Robert Adams and William Ellis, two each.

"I was pleased with the balanced scoring and overall effort of our players," Young said. "I'm glad all players had a chance to participate in the victory."

The Bulldogs played Hardin-Jefferson last night and will face Silsbee Friday in a road game. Now will be the time to test their mettle against the tougher teams. Jasper, H-J and Orangefield were tied 3-0 as of last Friday. Silsbee was 2-1 after a loss to the Hawks.

"West Orange-Stark is down from last year, but it's good to get off to a 3-0 start," Young said. "However, it gets tougher as we play Hardin- Jefferson, Silsbee and Orangefield. This is a very capable team."
