NCE District #1 receives grant
      U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands) announced last week that Newton County Emergency Services District #5 has been awarded a $41,031 federal grant. The funds were awarded from the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.

Day teaches Jasper Boy Scouts basics of aviation
      Jasper Boy Scouts got an eagle's eye view of East Texas, including a fly-over of Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin recently. They first visited Jasper's Bell Field and then took off from the Angelina County airport with EAA Chapter 1219, who had gathered more than 70 planes for the Fiesta Fly-In.

      IT'S BEEN ONE YEAR this month since the Precinct 4 county barn burned in Buna.The century-old pine structure is being replaced with a red metal building. Contractors were putting on some of the final pieces of trim on Monday this week.
