Walking the halls As you walk the halls of Few Primary you will see they are still decorated in a winter wonderland setting. The students have returned to their daily routine as if there was never a break. The faculty and staff are gearing up for a great second half of the school year. Few Primary's motto is "Building a Foundation of Excellence." Few Primary is where the children of our community get their education foundation. We start each of them on a road to success. Our goal at the end of the school year is that each child has progressed and learned to the best of their abilities. Before the holidays, with the help of Parnell and Rowe staff, Few Primary hosted the Elementary UIL Academic Competition. Jasper students from second grade through fifth grade competed against students from Kirbyville, Sour Lake, China, and Silsbee in various academic events. Our visitors were treated to an inviting setting, with the walls and commons areas decorated with lights and scenes of the holidays. Students from Few who worked hard and participated in the competition are: • Creative Writing: Ben Jeansonne, Madeline Jones, Britney Scott (6th place), Alexis Shierry (5th place). Coach Judy Dickerson. • Math: Reese Durand (3rd place), Leoncio Escalante, Ezra Lovett, Claire Walker. Coach Diane Holmes. • Spelling: Kylee Dominy, Karla Molina, Armin Panjvani, Garrett Roeder (4th place). Coach Lindsey Jeansonne. • Storytelling: Deanne Gillaspie, Holly Lucas, Allison McInnis (3rd place), Claire Robinson. Coach Renee Dickerson. The teachers in Kindergarten, first and second grade will be administering the mid-year TPRI (Texas Primary Reading Instrument) to their students the week of Jan. 21 - 25. This diagnostic reading inventory is required by the Texas legislature to be administered to each student in these grade levels three times each year. The information that is gathered is very beneficial; teachers and parents can see the growth their child has made throughout the year as well as year to year. We will be doing another round of afternoon reading tutorials for those students who do not show growth. We want the best reading foundation for all of our students; a strong reader will be successful. In closing, walking the halls of Few Primary you will see learning occurring everywhere; our parents, teachers, staff and administrators are all partners in the education of each child at Few Primary. |
