NCE District #1 receives grant U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands) announced last week that Newton County Emergency Services District #5 has been awarded a $41,031 federal grant. The funds were awarded from the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program. The purpose of the FY 2007 AFG is to award grants directly to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. "I am happy to congratulate Newton County Emergency Services District #5 on being awarded these grants. Our first responders are on the frontlines of our public safety efforts and I am very glad that the Department of Homeland Security can provide support," said Brady. Newton County Emergency Services received funding from the Operations and Safety Program Area. These funds can be used for training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and health and safety modifications to stations and facilities. Since 2004, with the Fiscal Year 2007 awards, AFG has provided a total of almost $2.2 billion to firstresponder organizations to purchase response equipment, personal protective equipment, and vehicles. |
