Chamber banquet to honor Jasperites

"Spirit of Community" is the theme of the 89th annual Chamber of Commerce banquet Friday, Jan. 25, at 6:30 p.m. in the Wesley Center, according to Liz Street, events coordinator for the Jasper Lake Sam Rayburn Area Chamber of Commerce.

Each year a committee selects from nominees in several categories to honor the citizen of the year, newcomer of the year, young person of the year, small business of the year, a chamber member and a hometown hero.

"Only a few seats are still available. Our sponsored tables of eight are reserved," said Street. Individual seats are available for $25 per person.

"This year we simplified things. We wanted an elegant and enjoyable evening where we could recognize those who have contributed to the community throughout the year," Street said.

The chamber has put together a slide presentation, and Beth Eckman will play piano. Golden Corral will cater the event and offer a choice of steak or grilled fish.

The event will be held at the Wesley Center next to First United Methodist Church at 329 N. Bowie. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the meal will be served at 7 p.m.

To reserve a seat call the chamber at 384-2762.
